11 Instagram accounts we're loving this May

Every month we give you our round-up of cool Instagram feeds by creative contemporary female artists who are currently on our radar. This month we take a look at illustrators, sculptors and mixed-media mavens who are making some seriously sweet art. Here are the 11 Instagram accounts we’re loving this May!

@its_hayleyquentin (feature image!)

Hayley Quentin’s paintings challenge the conventional representation of male beauty and eroticism in art”, says the Los Angeles-based artist’s About page on her website, and we think that’s a pretty apt description. Check out her Instagram feed to see her striking figurative works of men that also have a soft ethereal quality to them.

@paperinkart

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Hayley Wright is an illustrator who draws inspiration from fashion photography to create dreamy drawings and paintings that are soft, feminine and sometimes haunting. She also recently started designing custom skateboard and longboard decks using wood burning and spraypaint.

@stitchingbusiness

There’s something so homey and old-timey about hand-embroidered hoop art, but artist Chrissy K adds a modern touch to hers with funny messages and designs. She also creates neato accessories like zipper bags in eye-catching patterns and tote bags with hand-stitched designs.

@my_beautiful_artworks

We didn’t know what alcohol inks were until we came across Australian artist Katherine Heald’s Instagram feed, and now we’re definitely intrigued. She uses hers to create wonderfully colourful pieces inspired by Aboriginal art and natural elements like earth, water and wind.

@michelleheslop

Michelle Heslop uses watercolours, inks and acrylics to paint vibrant abstract pieces that seem to just flow off the canvas (or screen if you’re checking out her Instagram feed like we do).We love how she blends pastel hues with bolder blocks of colour and uses sweeping brushstrokes to create a real sense of movement.

@halfaroastchicken

Neon lights are the name of the game for Eve De Haan, who creates contemporary pieces using words and phrases lit up in glowing neon lights. Her Instagram feed shows her latest works and projects, as well as cool shots from her exhibitions and travels.

@pinkmarshmalloww

Masha Zemtsova is the founder and editor-in-chief of Art Maze Magazine, which is a very cool mag that you should definitely check out, but she’s also a pretty talented sculptor. Her new @pinkmarshmalloww feed shows the evolution of her very unique and very modern sculptures from the kiln through to the finished products.

@nadianizamudin

You’ve got to love creative types who do a little bit of everything, like artist Nadia Nizamudin who dabbles in painting, printmaking, embroidery, and more. Scroll through her feed and you’ll find a ton of inspiration from her colourful pieces made with acrylic paint, yarn and ink applied to materials like fabric, found paper and reclaimed wood.

@amatayastudio

Benz Amataya Kuipers always had a desire to express herself creatively, but it wasn’t until she had her two children that she began to explore her artistic side. Her paintings are created spontaneously without any prior planning, and she often allows her children to add the final touches, which adds a sense of freedom and colourful chaos to her pieces.

@typewrite_sg

Illustrator Sapna Malhotra believes that in this day and age of texts and emails, there is something so special about a handwritten note, and we couldn’t agree more. We love her bespoke illustrations for personalised stationery like writing paper, cards, gift tags and more.

@kellylrossetti

Kelly Rossetti’s figurative works are pretty impressive, as she manages to get shape and shadow down pat while still adding her own personal style into her paintings. However, her landscapes and abstract works are just as appealing, as she uses gorgeous hues inspired by nature.
