11 Instagram Accounts We're Loving This Month

We’re all about the painters this month, so our top Instagram picks for April include a diverse mix of ladies using a wide variety of techniques and tools to create stunning artwork that we’d be proud to hang in our home!

@charlottekeates (featured artwork)

London-based Charlotte Keates has a fascination with architecture, particularly 1960s and 70s structures, so her Instagram feed is filled with her unique paintings sketched out on neutral backgrounds and then filled in with blocks of colour to highlight particular architectural features. We love that she also posts shots of her studio so we can see her works in progress.

@jessica_brilli_artist

Jessica Brilli finds inspiration in vintage photos that she picks up at yard sales and in basements, and she then uses those photos to paint subtle yet striking scenes of everyday life, adding her own contemporary twists and imagination to the narratives. Her Instagram feed showcases her finished work and paintings in progress, all of which have a real retro Americana feel to them.

@elizabethlennie

There is a dream-like quality to the paintings on Toronto-based artist Libby Lennie’s Instagram feed, as she uses light washes to produce soft figurative works of memories of her childhood in Canada like people swimming in lakes, reclining next to the water, and skating on those same lakes in wintertime.

@annakincaide

It’s hard not to be drawn into Anna Kincaide’s dramatic paintings of women wearing massive hats of colourful flowers that obscure their eyes, giving them a sense of mystery, sophistication and frivolity all at the same time. Anna is adept at mixing realistic portraits with a touch of the abstract, which adds energy to each piece.

@rebeccamcfarland

Rebecca McFarland produces powerful portraits of women that are rich in character and depth and make use of a variety of materials like vintage wallpaper and junk mail. Her Instagram feed gives us an insight into her process, as she posts pics of everything from the first few sketched lines all the way up to the final pieces.

@ginafishmanart

Fashion, fun and colour are the themes of Gina Fishman’s Instagram feed where she shares pics of the things that inspire her and pics of her paintings, which have a real ‘endless summer’ quality to them. We especially love the figurative pieces with melted abstract effects.

Based in Sydney, Australia, Juju Roche draws on the landscapes, seascapes and colours of her native country to produce soft, flowing pieces that focus on colour and form. Scroll through her Instagram feed and you’ll find a lovely array of pastel tones that bring to mind the beach, ocean and sky.

@gracewright08

Bold linework and bright colours are New Zealand artist Grace Wright’s calling cards, as you can see from her Instagram feed where she features pics of her paintings, each with imaginative titles like ‘Daisy secretly preferred raspberries in her gin and tonic’ and ‘This wasn’t the Plum Parfait Doris was Expecting’.

Contemporary figurative painter Chambers Austelle aims to explore the way society looks at women and beauty with her minimalist portraits of women set in isolated spaces but embellished with bright colours and patterns.
